SHORT STORY: After winning the first set, New Hampshire tallied two set victories before the Great Danes took the match in five sets, Sunday evening.
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "It was a good effort by the team tonight. With Grace [Cozad] going down, we had to make some changes and the group stepped up and performed. [Anna] Chalupa did a great job from the service line and played great defense. Delaney [Foerster] came in and hit well. Overall, I'm very proud of the grit of the team today."
KEY STATS
- Graduate student Danielle Tedesco led the team with 16 kills, a .519 hitting percentage, and five blocks.
- Junior setter Malea Stanton tallied 44 assists.
- Charlotte Macken owned team-highs with 18 digs and five service aces.
- As a team, the Great Danes held a slight advantage with a .157 hitting percentage to the Wildcats' .156.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- New Hampshire started with the lead, 6-3, early in the first set.
- UAlbany tied the score at six before earning a four-point scoring run to take the lead, 11-8.
- After a second scoring run, this time for 10 points, the Great Danes held a 21-11 lead before taking the set, 25-15.
- The Wildcats jumped to a 9-0 lead before continuing for a 15-3 advantage in the second set.
- With two scoring runs, UAlbany closed the scoring gap to just three points. The set continued back-and-forth but New Hampshire earned the 25-23 set win.
- Similar to the first set, the third saw a 6-3 early lead for the Great Danes.
- UAlbany continued to add to its lead, eventually holding an eight-point advantage, 18-10, but after a couple of late-set scoring runs, the Wildcats took the third set, 25-23.
- The fourth set began with a block from freshmen Oren Abutbul and Lilou Stegeman before New Hampshire went for three straight points.
- Play continued back-and-forth until the Wildcats tallied a four-point scoring run to earn an 18-14 lead.
- The Great Danes came back with their own four-point scoring run for a 20-19 lead before tallying three straight points to close the set, 25-23.
- The Wildcats opened the final set with four points before UAlbany tied the score at eight.
- The Great Danes earned three-straight points for an 11-9 lead before taking the set, 15-13, and the match, 3-2.
