SHORT STORY: The Great Danes out-played the Seawolves winning three consecutive sets, Sunday afternoon.
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "It was great to see the team come right out from the beginning. We executed at a high level and played together. The Stony Brook match is always an intense match and we are happy to have a great showing."
KEY STATS
- Junior Kamara Kelly led the Great Dane offense totaling 13 kills; senior Regan Wright followed closely with 10 kills.
- Graduate student Danielle Tedesco led the blockers with seven total blocks, right behind her was senior ShaLi Niu with five total blocks.
- The Great Danes almost doubled the amount of assists (40-25) over the Seawolves, led by freshman Elaina Wamhoff (19) and junior Malea Stanton (18).
- Senior Charlotte Macken tallied 10 digs leading UAlbany.
- The Great Danes outhit the Seawolves with a .257 hitting percentage against Stony Brook's .110.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UAlbany opened the first set with three back-to-back kills by Regan Wright, totaling a 4-0 run against the Seawolves to open the match.
- Late into the first set, Charlotte Macken tied the score 21-21 with a service ace, after a three-point run by Stony Brook.
- UAlbany opened the second set with a kill by Kamara Kelly.
- Graduate student Danielle Tedesco earned a kill midway through the second set before serving to complete the six-point run.
- The Great Danes held the lead for the entirety of the second set, out-playing the Seawolves, 25-12.
- Stony Brook opened the third set by out-scoring UAlbany, 5-2.
- The third set left the teams rallying back and forth with multiple changes in the lead. Eventually, the Great Danes were able to clinch the win, 25-23, as Kelly tallied the final kill.
NEXT: The Great Danes split their next weekend with a home game on Friday, October 8 against Hartford and an away game on Sunday, October 10 at NJIT.
