COACH JOSH PICKARD: "I'm very proud of our defensive effort tonight. We applied service pressure and defended well. Casey [Brown] and Delaney [Foerster] came off the bench and did a great job for us. Now, we are back to practice tomorrow to prepare for Sunday."
KEY STATS
- Senior Regan Wright (11) and graduate student Danielle Tedesco (10) led the team with double-digit kills.
- Junior Malea Stanton stood in the setter's spotlight for the entire match, totaling 37 assists.
- On defense, senior Charlotte Macken compiled 14 digs and freshman Lilou Stegeman totaled six blocks to lead the team.
- The Great Danes outhit the Highlanders, .270-.000.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UAlbany started on fire with two scoring runs for a 7-1 early lead.
- After some back-and-forth action, NJIT closed the point gap to two with a scoring run of their own.
- The Great Danes tallied a third scoring run to take a 21-13 lead before taking the first set, 25-15.
- After NJIT earned a one-point lead with a 2-1 advantage, UAlbany earned eight-straight points, with seven served by Lilou Stegeman, to take the lead back.
- The set continued back-and-forth before the Great Danes closed the set with a 6-1 scoring run for the 25-18 victory.
- Once again, UAlbany jumped to a 7-2 lead before adding a six-point run for a 19-8 advantage.
- With a final four-point scoring run, the Great Danes took the set, 25-12, and the match, 3-0.
NEXT: The Great Danes continue at home on October 31. UAlbany will host a Halloween costume contest during their match against New Hampshire.
