Key Stats

  • Vermont outshot UAlbany 17-5 overall
  • Vermont drew eight corner kicks to UAlbany's zero
  • UAlbany did not allow a shot on goal in the second half
Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "We had a tough start to the game that we never really recovered from today.  Having to chase the game from behind, especially on the road, is not easy.  We had some moments and chances in the second half but it wasn't quite enough.  We have two impactful games remaining with a big one on Thursday for senior night."

How it Happened
  • Vermont opened the game quickly, scoring two goals in the first 12 minutes.  The Catamounts first found the back of the net in the seventh minute after drawing a corner kick.  Alex Nagy's kick was served in and bounced around and finally into the goal by Zach Barrett to put Vermont up 1-0 early.
  • Less than five minutes later, in the 12th minute, Nacho Lerech set up Joe Morrison for the Catamounts' second goal less than one-third of the way into the first half.  Vermont collected a loose ball in the midfield, switched the field to the right, and drove up the right side.  A draw into the far side of the UAlbany box from Lerech found Morrison's feet with UAlbany goalkeeper Carlos Tofern covering the near side and unable to recover in time to prevent the score.
  • Austin DaSilva, who led UAlbany with three shots taken on the afternoon, saw his second attempt of the second half ricochet off the crossbar in the 20th minute, nearly putting the Great Danes on the board.
  • Vermont outshot UAlbany 9-2 in the first half.  Four of the Catamounts' shots were on-target, including the two scores.  After halftime, despite Vermont continuing to hold a lopsided advantage in shots taken, 8-3, neither team scored or took a shot on target.
  • UAlbany and Vermont entered Saturday's showdown tied for second place in the America East standings and the second quarterfinal bye in the America East Tournament.  With the win, the Catamounts move into sole possession of second place with two games remaining, while UAlbany has dropped one spot to third, with games remaining against Binghamton and Stony Brook.
Next: UAlbany hosts Binghamton for its regular-season home finale and Senior Night on October 28.
