SHORT STORY: The Great Danes put up a battle but the host, Monmouth, tallied the win, Friday afternoon.
COACH PHIL SYKES: "It was a tough [game] today. We didn't play our best game out there. The team created some decent chances but we couldn't capitalize on them."
KEY STATS
- Freshman Alison Smisdom led the team with four shots, including two on goal.
- Sophomore Charlotte Triggs and freshman Floor de Ruiter tallied two shots each. Both of de Ruiter's were on goal.
- The Great Danes totaled 11 shots, five on goal, with 11 penalty corners.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks started the game offensively, compiling a 5-1 shot advantage in the first quarter. Freshman Lara Behn saved the sole shot on goal during the first 15 minutes.
- UAlbany took over in the second quarter. The Great Danes spent most of the second 15 minutes in their offensive half, tallying a 5-1 shot advantage, with five penalty corners.
- Heading into halftime tied, Monmouth scored three goals in the second half to earn the win. The Hawks earned seven shots to UAlbany's five.
- Despite the advantage in shots, the Great Danes still pressured on offense, tallying five penalty corners to Monmouth's two in the second half.
NEXT: The Great Danes will close the regular season at home, hosting two teams from the Golden State - UC Davis (Friday, Oct. 29) and California (Sunday, Oct. 31).
