SHORT STORY: The Great Danes caught an early lead with two goals in the first half to earn the road win at UMass Lowell, Friday afternoon.
COACH PHIL SYKES: "I am so proud of our team today. It's always tough playing at [UMass] Lowell. We played very well in the first half and had some very solid team defense to preserve the win."
KEY STATS
- Sophomore Lara Mortz scored the second goal of the game for her fourth this season and her second game-winning goal.
- Freshman Alison Smisdom tallied her 11th goal while fellow freshman Floor de Ruiter assisted her third goal.
- As a team, the Great Danes outshot the Riverhawks, 15-4, with a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal.
- Both UAlbany goals were scored during a penalty corner.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Alison Smisdom opened the game, collecting her own rebound for the first goal late in the first quarter.
- Sophomore Lara Mortz scored the eventual game-winning goal with a net-crossing pass from freshman Floor de Ruiter as the clock reached 11:00 on the second-quarter clock.
- UMass Lowell lessened the lead with a goal in the early fourth quarter but the Great Danes held on to win, 2-1.
NEXT: The Great Danes will continue on the road, heading to Monmouth for a 3 pm game on Friday, October 22.
