Key Stats
  • Neophytos Scottis scored his first goal of the season
  • Saad Faiz scored his first goal of the season
  • Carlos Tofern recorded three saves
  • UMass Lowell outshot UAlbany 10-7, including 6-2 in the first half
  • The teams combined to take seven corner kicks in the second half
Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "We showed great character to come back from a deficit to get three points tonight.  It's difficult to go down a goal early and important to stay calm and know there's still a lot of the game left to play.  Our guys did that and found moments to come from behind.  It's a quick turnaround now to the next game on Sunday and we'll get to work preparing right away.

How it Happened
  • An early miscue from the Great Danes defense resulted in UMass Lowell's Jonathan Ferreira collecting the loose ball by himself with only UAlbany goalkeeper Carlos Tofern to beat.  Ferreira took advantage of the situation, netting a goal for the River Hawks in the fourth minute.
  • UAlbany drew a corner kick in the 38th minute.  Pantelis Panteli took the kick from the right side and found Neophytos Scottis in the middle of the River Hawk box.  Scottis redirected the serve with his head into the far side netting to tie the game at one.
  • The first half ended in a 1-1 tie.  UMass Lowell had outshot UAlbany 6-2 over the first 45 minutes, with Tofern recording two saves.
  • In the 55th minute, UMass Lowell nearly committed their own defensive blunder.  Austin DaSilva rushed the UMass Lowell goalkeeper Christian Miesch and blocked his clear attempt.  Guillermo Mijancos recovered the deflection and took an attempt on the open net, but Miesch recovered to collect the slow-roller.
  • UAlbany pulled ahead in the 81st minute when Saad Faiz ripped a rocket from the top right corner of the box into the top netting off a setup from Haflidi Sigurdarson.  Like Scottis, in was Faiz's first goal of the season, and first as a Great Dane.
  • UAlbany held on to win by the same score, 2-1, bringing their conference points total to nine in four games.  The Great Danes made up their shots difference from the first half, narrowly trailing the River Hawks 5-4 in the category after halftime.
Next: UAlbany hosts UMBC on Sunday, October 17 as part of a double-header with the women's team.
