Softball Splits Day One of the Spring Games in Boombah Soldier’s Creek

Short Story:After falling in five innings in game one of the day to start the Spring Games in Boombah Soldier's Creek, Kelly Barkevich's sac fly led UAlbany to a victory against Dartmouth in the second game, splitting day one.

Key Stats (Game 1): Recap (Game 1)
Opening the first day of the Spring Games in Boombah Soldier's Creek, the University at Albany softball team fell to Western Michigan by a score of 11-3 in five innings.
 
UAlbany got off to a quick start with two runs in the first, but Western Michigan never looked back after tallying a big five-run second inning.
 
After Alexis Phillips reached base on an error to start the first, Petty drove her in on a RBI double to make it 1-0. After Petty later advanced on a groundout, Falotico drove her home on a RBI making it 2-0.
 
Western Michigan got on the board in the bottom of the first after a double came around to score on a RBI single.
 
The Broncos then proceeded to plate five runs in the bottom of the second to pull ahead 6-2. 
 
UAlbany made it a 6-3 game in the top of the third after loading the bases and Falotico was hit by a pitch to force in a run.
 
Western Michigan plated a pair in the bottom of the third and then added a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to seal the 11-3 win.

  • Falotico went 2-3 with three RBIs.
  • Petty went 2-2, including her first collegiate home run.

Recap (Game 2)
After falling to Western Michigan in the first game of the day, the Great Danes bounced back with a 8-7 victory over Dartmouth.
 
After the contest was knotted up at six, Falotico put the Great Danes ahead in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI double. Kelly Barkevich then brought home the eventual winning run on a sac fly to make it 8-7.
 
The Big Green plated two in the top of the first on a sac fly and a passed ball.
 
Petty got the Great Danes on the first in the top of the first on a solo home run, the first of her collegiate career. Falotico then followed with a two-run homer, driving in Madison Petrella after she was hit by a pitch making it 3-2.
 
Dartmouth knotted the game up three in the top of the second after a walk forced in a run with the bases loaded. 
 
The Great Danes pulled back in front 4-3 in the top of the fourth after Phillips walked to lead off the inning and later on came around to score on a sac fly by Petty.
 
The Big Green responded back with three runs in the top of the fourth making it 6-4.
 
The Great Danes tied the game up once again in the bottom of the fourth after Barkevich and Tara Driver came around to score on a fielder's choice and error.
 
UAlbany took an 8-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth after Drumgole reached on an error and Petrella walked, Falotico drove in Drumgole on a RBI double making it 7-6. Barkevich then brought home Petrella from third on a sac fly making it 8-6.
 
Dartmouth tacked on a run in the top of the sixth, but that was all for the remainder of the game.
 
Next
The Great Danes will continue play in Soldier's Creek against Loyola Chicago and FIU on Saturday.
