Short Story: The University at Albany dropped a pair of matchups on day two of the Spring Games at Boombah Soldier's Creek, falling to Loyola Chicago 11-3 and then FIU 5-3.

Recap (Game 1)
Starting the second day of the Spring Games in Soldier's Creek, the University at Albany softball team fell to Loyola Chicago by a score of 11-3 in six innings.
 
Loyola tallied five runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Great Danes plated three runs in the bottom of the third, but another five-run inning for Loyola in the sixth sealed the win.
 
To start the Ramblers' five-run first inning, the team scored two runs off of a fielding error. Loyola then proceeded to score three more each on RBI singles.
 
Loyola made it 6-0 in the top of the second after a single eventually came around to score on a sac fly.
 
The Great Danes trimmed the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the third. After Alexis Phillips walked and Lové Drumgole reached on a fielder's choice, Petty brought them both home on an RBI triple making it 6-2. Petty then proceeded to score a few batters later on a fielding error.
 
Loyola sealed the win with a five-run sixth inning. The Ramblers notched a two-run homer and then added three more runs when a fielding error cleared the bases.

  • Madison Petrella went 2-3 and scored a run.
  • Falotico went 1-2 and scored a run.
  • Kelly Barkevich hit a three-run homer and scored a run.
  • Emma Adams tallied her first collegiate hit, going 1-2.

Recap (Game 2)
Closing out the day, the Great Danes fell in a close 5-3 game to FIU. The Panthers tallied a pair of runs in the fifth and then added a run in the sixth to hold on for the win.
 
The Panthers struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second after a double came around to score on a RBI single, and the a few batters later a run game on another RBI single.
 
The Great Danes tallied three-runs to go in front in the top of the fourth. After Falotico walked and Petrella singled, Barkevich brought them both home on a three-run homer. The home run is her second of the season. 
 
FIU responded in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homer, making it a 4-3 game.
 
The Panthers sealed the win adding a run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single after the first two batters of the inning reached base.

The Great Danes will close out play in Soldier's Creek on Sunday against Detroit Mercy at 8 am and then Loyola Chicago at 10:30 am.
