Short Story: After falling to Cornell in game one of the Spring Games,
Madison Petrella's three RBIs and
Chloe Lewis' strong performance in the circle led UAlbany to a victory against Providence in the second game, splitting day one of the tournament.

Recap (Game 1)
Opening up its 2020 campaign, the University at Albany softball team fell in game one of the Spring Games to Cornell by a score of 12-5.
Cornell tallied three runs in the first inning, and never looked back the rest of the contest. The Great Danes responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first, but the Big Red scored three runs in the third and sixth to seal the win.
In the first inning, after Cornell's leadoff hitter singled and advanced to second on a walk, the Big Red got on the board with an RBI single. A walk and fielder's choice prolonged the inning to load the bases, and Cornell tacked on two more on an RBI single making it 3-0.
UAlbany tallied its first run of the season in the bottom of the first. After Phillips singled and stole second, she proceeded to score on an error by the third basemen after attempting to steal third.
After both teams went down quietly in the second, Cornell tallied three more runs in the top of the third on a leadoff home run and a two-run homer making it 6-1.
The Great Danes added another run in the bottom of the fourth. After singles from
Amanda Mosall and Mitros, Drumgole brought home Mosall on an RBI single.
After Cornell responded with run in the top of the fifth to make it 7-3, the Great Danes answered back. After Petty led off with a single, she eventually came around to score on Barkevich RBI single.
The Big Red had a big five-run top of the sixth with a two-run homer, an RBI triple and a run scoring error with the bases loaded.
Down 12-3 in the bottom the sixth, Jimenez plated a pair of Great Danes after the bases were loaded on an RBI single, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Recap (Game 2)
After falling to Cornell in the first game of the day, the Great Danes bounced back with a 5-2 victory against Providence.
Paced by a stellar performance by Lewis in the circle and three RBIs by Petrella, the Great Danes led throughout the whole game. Lewis went six innings in the circle while striking out four. Petrella had a stellar collegiate debut, highlighted by a two-run double in the top of the seventh.
The Great Danes got on the board first in the top of the third. After Lewis walked and advanced to second on a groundout, Drumgole brought her home on an RBI single making it 1-0.
UAlbany scored two more in the third on an RBI single by Petty and a RBI double by Petrella.
Providence tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth after a leadoff single came around to score on an RBI double making it 3-1.
The Great Danes plated a pair in the top of seventh to take a 5-1 lead. After
Breanna Bryant walked, Phillips singled and Petty reached on an error, Petrella drove in Bryant and Phillips on an RBI double.
Providence added a run in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all Hammond gave up in the circle, sealing the Great Danes' first victory of the season.
