Recap:
Sarah Petzold roped a two-run, walk-off homerun in the eighth inning to help the UAlbany softball team take the series against rival Stony Brook with a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Petzold finished the day with three hits (.750), two of which were for extra bases, and a team-best two RBI. Shaye Swiatek, who batted .500, with a hit, wrapped up the duo of Great Danes with RBI's on the day.
Celeste Verdolivo recorded the win in the circle, striking out seven, in four innings of work. Chloe Lewis started the game, allowing just one earned run in four innings.
The Great Danes found themselves battling from behind once again as the Seawolves took an early 1-0 lead.
The home team tied the game with a run in the second before tacking on two more in the fourth. A Stony Brook error gave UAlbany its first lead of the game before the team pushed its buffer to 3-1 when Courtney Courtade scored on a ball put in play by Harding. However, the Seawolves evened the board at 3-3 in the fifth with a two-run shot over the left field fence.
Verdolivo would retired the final six batters, five by strikeout, to force extras.
Stony Brook threatened with a runner in extras but the Great Danes' defense turned a double play to end the inning, putting Petzold in position to the end the game in walk-off fashion with Katie Falotico on base in the eighth.
Up Next: The Great Danes take a break from conference play with a doubleheader against Army West point on Wednesday at Albany Field. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
