Head Coach Phil Sykes: “Today was one of those senior days that I wish I could bottle up and repeat every year, it was perfect. After the opening few minutes we woke up and overall our three seniors played their hearts out. Nealon had a strong day and got the shutout, Dana scored four goals and Baylee scored one of her own and set up a few of Dana's goals. Those three were just fantastic today and I am so happy for them and with the team's effort.”

Goalkeeper Melissa Nealon posted her fourth shutout of the season as the No. 22 UAlbany field hockey team blanked Cornell, 5-0, on Senior Day.

 

The win snaps the Great Dane's three-game skid and improves their record to 10-6, while Cornell falls to 7-6.

 

Dana Bozek recorded her first four-goal game of the season, bringing her season total to 14 goals. The 14 tallies rank 10th all-time on the single-season goals list.

 

The Great Danes also got a goal from senior Baylee Burghardt. Burghardt broke open the scoring in the second quarter, with a reverse chip shot off a pass from Katie MacCallum.

 

Bozek, who had scored earlier in the second, notched a pair of goals in the third quarter to push the lead to 4-0. She struck a fourth and final time in the 52nd minute. Kelsey McCrudden recorded the assist on the play, her second of the game.

 

Cornell drew four penalty corners in the fourth quarter but had no answer for UAlbany goalkeeper Melissa Nealon who finished the contest with six saves.

 

The Great Danes outshot the Big Red, 15-13 and held a heavy 10-6 advantage in penalty corners.

 

Up next: The Great Danes are back in action on Friday, October 25, at Maine. The contest is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
