Despite being locked in a scoreless battle for more than 70 minutes, Josephine van der Hoop scored just 25 seconds into the second overtime to lift No. 23 Monmouth to a 1-0 victory against No. 22 UAlbany on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, the Great Danes fall to 1-2 in America East action while the Hawks remain undefeated with a 3-0 record.
UAlbany and Monmouth played a scoreless first half, with the Hawks holding a slight 6-5 advantage in shots.
Coming out of the break, the Great Danes drew the lone penalty corner of the third quarter. As a result, Katie MacCallum fired a shot from the top of the circle but was denied by the Hawk's goalkeeper.
Neither team would record a shot in the final quarter of regulation, sending the 0-0 game into overtime.
Both teams would make it through the first overtime quarter unscathed, forcing a second and final overtime.
In sudden victory-second overtime, Hoop notched her first goal of the season to seal the victory in the 71st minute. She was assisted by Yasmin Pratt on the goal.
