How It Happened
Freshman pitcher Maranda Jimenez led the UAlbany Great Danes to an 8-7 victory over Binghamton in extra innings, striking out one batter.
UAlbany pulled ahead of Binghamton by three runs in the first inning. Chelsea Henige hit an RBI-single to bring Katie Falotico around to score the first run of the game. Donna Conrad then hit an RBI-single to bring Kelly Spear home to score the second run. Chelsea Henige scored again in the first inning on a wild pitch.
The score remained 3-0 until the third inning, when the Great Danes brought in two more runs.
With bases loaded, Donna Conrad hit a two RBI-single that brought Henige and Falotico around to score. The Bearcats retaliated in the bottom of the third by scoring three runs. The Great Danes maintained a two-run lead until the fifth inning when the Bearcats scored two more runs.
With the score tied, UAlbany came back in the sixth inning to put two more runs up on the board. With Kelly Spear and Katie Falotico on base, Chelsea Henige hit a two RBI-double and advanced to third on the play.
Binghamton brought the game into extra innings after scoring two additional runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The game went on for three extra innings until the Great Danes scored one run in the tenth inning. Alexis Phillips scored after an error was made by the second baseman.
Binghamton was unable to score in the tenth inning, leaving UAlbany with a one-run lead. The final score was 8-7.
