How It Happened
Game 1
Junior pitcher Celeste Verdolivo led the UAlbany Great Danes to an 8-4 victory over DSU in the first game of the series. Verdolivo pitched five scoreless innings against DSU.
UAlbany got off to a quick start in the first inning, scoring three runs. McKenzie Bump opened up the first inning with a single to left center field, and then stole second. Chelsea Henige hit an RBI-single through the right side, bringing McKenzie Bump to home plate. Kelly Barkevich's two-run homer brought Henige around to score. Delaware State scored one run in the bottom of the first.
Neither team scored again until the fifth inning. Chelsea Henige hit an RBI-double to right center field, which brought McKenzie Bump and Shaye Swiatek, who were on third and second respectively, around to score. Delaware State responded in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs.
The Great Danes solidified their lead in the sixth inning after scoring three more runs. Kelly Barkevich opened the sixth inning with a double down the right field line. Alexa Corben then stepped in to pinch run for Barkevich. Maranda Jimenez singled and advanced to second on the play, putting Corben on third. Donna Conrad hit a two RBI-single, bringing Corben and Alexis Phillips (pinch runner for Jimenez) home. Katie Falotico hit an RBI-single that brought Donna Conrad around to score. The first game ended 8-4.
Game 2
Freshman pitcher Maranda Jimenez led UAlbany to its second win of the day.
The game started out with a scoreless first inning.
With bases loaded, the Great Danes scored three runs in the second inning on a three RBI-triple by Kelly Spear. DSU scored one run in the bottom of the second.
It wasn't until the seventh inning that the Great Danes would score again. Chelsea Henige hit an RBI-single that brought Alexis Phillips around to score. Katie Falotico hit a two-run homer to bring in the last two runs of the game for UAlbany. The final score of the second game was 6-1.
