UAlbany Splits Double-Header With UMBC

Short Story: UAlbany took an early lead and won the first game against UMBC, scoring runs in all five innings. The momentum was broken in the second game as UMBC retaliated with a 7-0 win.

How it happened

With bases loaded, UMBC pitcher Kim Puccio walked Donna Conrad, bringing Kelly Spear home to score the first run of the day. 

The Great Danes scored four runs in the second inning, two of which were on wild pitches. After Katie Falotico scored on the first wild pitch, McKenzie Bump hit an RBI-single to left center field. Chelsea Henige hit an RBI-double to left field later in the second inning, bringing McKenzie Bump around to score. Henige scored the fourth run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Amelia Ely doubled to center field in the third inning, which was followed by Katie Falotico reaching on an error by the second baseman, and then advancing to second, putting Ely on third. Ely scored on a wild pitch, bringing the lead to six runs for the Great Danes. UMBC scored one run in the bottom of the third inning. 

McKenzie Bump walked on the first at-bat of the fourth inning and came around to score when Chelsea Henige hit an RBI-triple to left center field. 

Amelia Ely hit a home run in the fifth inning, giving the Great Danes an eight run advantage. Kelly Spear hit an RBI-double that brought Aliyah Wade around to score the final run for UAlbany. The game ended in a 9-1 UAlbany victory. 

The second game started out with a two-run lead for UMBC in the bottom of the first inning. UMBC maintained the lead throughout the game, scoring five more runs in the fifth inning. The second game ended 7-0 UMBC. 

Next: UAlbany will compete against UMBC in Baltimore, Maryland on April 22nd for the third and final game of the series.
