Baseball Takes Series Finale At Hofstra, 6-4

Short Story: UAlbany baseball wins its third series of the season after taking the final game against Hofstra 6-4.

How it happened

  • Hofstra scored first with two runs in the bottom of the third
  • UAlbany responded immediately, scoring four runs in the top of the fourth.  Marc Wangenstein worked a leadoff walk, and advanced to second when Patrick Lagravinese hit a single to right.  Both Wangenstein and Lagravinese advanced a base on a passed ball, and advanced again on a wild pitch that allowed Wangenstein to score.  With a runner on third, Matt Codispoti hit an RBI single through the left side.  Kenny Hayden, with two outs and one on, reached safely on a fielding error by the Hofstra shortstop.  Codispoti and Hayden each advanced a base to third and second on a balk by the Hofstra pitcher, before Nick Kondo hit a single to shortstop, which scored Codispoti and Hayden when the Hofstra shortstop committed a throwing error.
  • Hofstra scored once in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Great Dane lead to 4-3
  • UAlbany scored twice in the top of the seventh.  Brad Malm worked a leadoff walk and scored when Connor Powers hit a single through the right side and the Hofstra right fielder committed a throwing error.  With Powers on third and none out, Wangenstein hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Powers.
  • Hofstra added one run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 6-4, but what unable to score again

Next: The Great Danes have an immediate turnaround, playing at Saint Peter's on Monday, March 19.
