Softball Drops One Game to Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, P.A.—The University at Albany was scheduled to face Lehigh in a doubleheader today, but was only able to play one game due to weather. Lehigh was victorious with a 14-5 win over the Danes.

The Great Danes were able to attack first, scoring one in the top of the first. Aliyah Wade had a huge first at bat with a triple down the left field line. Then a single up the middle by Donna Conrad allowed Wade to be sent home.

Moving to the bottom of the first, Lehigh was ready to attack. With five Great Dane walks and four Great Dane errors, the Mountain Hawks were able to score eleven runs.

Looking to catch up after a long inning, the Great Danes perservered and countered with four runs in the bottom of the second. Kelly Spear started off the inning with a single to center field. Then Sarah Petzold hit a two-run homerun long ball over center field. Playing off the momentum, Wade hit her second triple of the day. The next batter up, Conrad was walked. Power-hitter Liz Snow then took control sending a double to left center to score both runners on base. At the end of the second the Great Danes trailed 11-5.

In the top of the third, Lehigh scored three more, with only one UAlbany error.

With neither teams scoring in the fourth or fifth, the final score read 14-5 in favor of Lehigh

The Great Danes will be back at 2 PM this Wednesday, April 26 for a single game at home against the Binghamton Bearcats.
