Baseball Takes Series Over Maine in 9-4 Victory

BOX SCORE

ALBANY, N.Y.— Getting to Maine's bullpen early in the game, the University at Albany baseball team (19-23, 7-10) closed out their conference series with the Black Bear's (17-29, 6-11) with a 9-4 win.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Kyle Sacks opened with a bunt down the left field line towards third base. After Matt Hinchy singled into shallow right, Evan Harasta hit both base runners home with a double into deep left field, giving the Danes their first lead of the game of 4-3.

Harasta advanced to third when the Maine short stop made a throwing error attempting to get Tre Todd out at first, and later scored on a passed ball. Todd then scored when Karson Canaday was a few feet shy of a home run, hitting the left field wall for a double.

After Joey Tracy scored on a bases loaded walk, Canaday made it home off a Sacks sacrifice fly into right field, giving the Danes an 8-3 lead.

UAlbany added one more run in the bottom of the eighth when Todd hit a two-out double into center field that brought home Hinchy from third, putting UAlbany up 9-4.

Ryan Stinar (5-0) remains undefeated on the year after pitching 5.0 innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits and struck out six batters. Hunter Torres pitched 2.0 innings of relief, allowing one earned run on three hits and mowed down three Maine batters.

Freshman Dominic Savino (7) moved into third for saves in a season with seven on the year, going 2.0 shutout innings on three hits.

Hinchy put together a 2-for-4 outing with three runs scored, while Harasta continued his outstanding week with a .500-day with three RBI's and one run scored.

UAlbany will host the first place Binghamton Bearcats for another America East Conference series beginning on Saturday. Before the game, there will be a ceremony recognizing the Great Dane senior's. Game one is set to start at noon on Varsity Field.
