BOX SCORE

STONY BROOK, N.Y.— On one of the hotter days of the season, the University at Albany baseball team (20-27, 8-13) dropped the series opener to Stony Brook (23-24, 12-8), 7-2. Even with the loss, the Danes secured fifth place for the America East Tournament as Maine lost both games of their doubleheader against Binghamton.

In the top of the sixth, trailing 3-0, Will Miller began the inning with a triple into deep right center. Two batters later, Kyle Sacks hit a drop single into right field to score Miller, putting the Danes down 3-1.

Already up 4-1, Stony Brook tapped on three more runs in the bottom of the seventh including RBI's from Jack Parenty, David Real and Casey Baker.

Sacks led off the top of the ninth with a single up the middle, which was followed by a double down the right field line by Matt Hinchy. Evan Harasta then grounded out to short, allowing Sacks to score from third, giving UAlbany a 7-2 deficit.

Brendan Ryan (5-4) pitched 3.0 innings and allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out four batters in the loss. Ryan Stinar pitched 3.0 innings and let up three earned runs on three hits and also struck out four. Stephen Woods closed out the game, going for 2.0 innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits and put down two Seawolves.

Chad Lee (6-4) earned the win for Stony Brook, going 5.0 innings and allowed no earned runs on two hits and struck out eight batters.

Sacks produced the majority of the UAlbany offense, going perfect at the plate with a 3-for-3 afternoon and added one run and one RBI.

The Danes and Seawolves face off against each other for a series finale doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Joe Nathan Stadium.
