Baseball Downed 12-2 In Sunday's Finale Versus Stony Brook

BOX SCORE
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany baseball team suffered a series sweep at the hands of first-place Stony Brook, as the Seawolves overcame UAlbany 12-2 in Sunday's finale. With the loss, the Great Danes fell to 11-19 overall and 5-6 in the America East, while Stony Brook improved to 23-12 on the season and 12-2 in conference play.
Stony Brook's offense accrued 18 hits and put runs up in seven of nine innings, beginning with three in the top of the first.
Stringing together Bobby Honeyman's leadoff double and Toby Handley's RBI single up the middles, the Seawolves took a 4-0 advantage in the second.
However, UAlbany broke onto the board in the bottom half of the inning, as senior Adam Mund led off with a single to left, moved to second on Trevor DeMerritt's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Eric Mueller's RBI single to right-centerfield.
After Stony Brook scored three runs in the third on four hits, and an unearned run in the fourth, the Great Danes added their second run of the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth frame.
Loading the bases on a pair of walks and Mueller's second hit of the game, Will Miller knocked home DeMerritt from third with a sac fly to center. With one out, Lushkevich drew a walk to load the bases again, but they were left stranded, as reliever Chad Lee worked his way out of the jam with an infield popup and a strikeout to end the side.
From there, Stony Brook tacked on a run in the fifth, two in the eighth, and one in the ninth.
On the hill, senior Matt Gallup (1-2) took the loss, allowing four runs and four hits in the first inning. Joe Romero relieved Gallup in the second, while Andrew Jaurique came in in the fourth, and Joey Moore appeared in the fifth and stayed for the remainder of the game.
Lee (4-1) earned the win, allowing no runs and two hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Offensively, the Danes totaled six hits led by Mueller's 2-for-3 effort.
Up next, the Great Danes travel to take on NYIT Tuesday for a pair of non-conference games beginning at 12 p.m.
