Men's Soccer Out-Shoots Boston University, Falls 3-0 in Non-Conference Tilt

BOX SCORE
BOSTON, MASS.- In its final regular season non-conference match-up, University at Albany men's soccer (7-7-1, 2-2 AE) slipped 3-0 at Boston University (10-3-1) on Tuesday night. The Danes return to conference play on Saturday night against New Hampshire (8-2-3, 2-1-1 AE).
“Boston University is a very good team on both sides, and they created good chances,” said head coach Trevor Gorman. “They took their moments, and the team that does that is always going to have the advantage. I'm proud of the way our guys played, and I'm confident we're ready for the final run in the America East regular season.”
The Terriers fired off four unanswered shots in the first 10 minutes. Danny Vitiello made two saves to thwart off an early momentum shift and keep the score tied at zero.
After a slow start, Jake Barros and Moosah Khanat got the Danes going on the offensive end. Barros saw a header go high, while Khanat took UAlbany's first shot on goal in the 13th minute. Defender Keith Traut had a header go wide off of a corner moments later.
Keeping the pressure up on the Terriers defense, the Purple & Gold made it five unanswered shots mid-way through the first half. Barros put a shot on net, and Bernardo Mattos took a shot that was blocked by the BU defensive line.
The Terriers only needed one timely possession to take a 1-0 lead late in the first half, and Boston U. kept a one-goal advantage at the break.
With some early frustration to start the second period, Boston U. quickly found its opening for a larger lead. The Terriers scored twice less than three minutes apart in the 55th and 58th minutes.
The Danes found their way to one shot on goal in the second half with five minutes left, courtesy of freshman midfielder Carlos Clark. With time winding down, Pedro Espindola found Afonso Pinheiro on the back post, but the sophomore missed wide.
Gorman's squad out-shot the Terriers 16-12, and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. The Purple & Gold also forced Boston U., into offsides position on seven occasions.
UAlbany men's soccer (7-7-1, 2-2 AE) will honor its four seniors, Jordan DiLapo, Martin Gorrie, Philip Persson and Anthony Rozzano in a 7:00pm America East game at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium against UNH (8-2-3, 2-1-1 AE) on Saturday night. The Wildcats are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the league.
