LOUNDONVILLE, N.Y. – The University at Albany softball team concluded another strong season against crosstown rival Siena College, splitting a doubleheader at Siena Field on Tuesday, April 30. UAlbany has won 15 of the last 17 match-ups against the Saints and two of three this season.
The Great Danes triumphed in the early game, 3-2, as junior Brittany MacFawn pitched her 26th complete game of the season. UAlbany (31-11, 13-1 AE) scored one run in the first, second and sixth. Senior Lindsey Stout led the team at the plate going 2-for-2 with an RBI.
The first inning opened up with action on the basepaths. Great Dane senior Taylor Franich led off with a single. She proceeded to steal second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Junior Charlise Castro then drew her team-leading 30th walk of the season – stealing second. Franich scored the game's first run on a wild pitch.
UAlbany extended the lead, 2-0, one inning later. This time it was sophomore Vicky McFarland who singled to left center, driving-in freshman Kate Biasi.
The Saints looked to rally, tying the game 2-2 in the fourth inning. Sophomore Paige Lloyd homered to center field, a two-run shot. However, the Great Danes responded in the sixth as Stout singled to left to drive-in the eventual winning run.

The right-handed hurler gave up five hits, two earned runs and struck out nine while walking none. Freshman Alyssa Lancaster (3-10) took the loss for season. She went seven innings allowing three earned runs, two walks and striking out three.
In game two, freshman Annie Johnson's three-hit, two-run performance, was not enough as the Great Danes lost to the Saints, 7-5. She improved to a team-leading .371 batting average. UAlbany rallied for three runs in the seventh inning.
Siena (17-25, 8-4 MAAC) put together a four-run second to take a lead they'd never relinquish. The Saints recorded six hits throughout the inning, including an RBI-double to left center by sophomore Abby Carpenter.
UAlbany chipped the lead to 4-2 as Castro hit a two-run dinger, her seventh homer of the season. The Saints responded with three more runs in the sixth to extend the lead, 7-2. Lloyd highlighted the inning with a two-run RBI.
The Great Danes put on the rally caps in the seventh, bringing the game within two runs, as they had three of their own cross the plate. Johnson drove-in the first run with a single, followed by an RBI-single by freshman Maggie Cocks. Two runs scored on the play due to a Siena error.
