ALBANY, N.Y.- The University at Albany field hockey team (12-3, 2-1 AE) suffered its first shutout loss of the season against America East rival New Hampshire 3-0 at Alumni Field on Friday afternoon.

“I think our girls were up coming into the game, but UNH is always a team we battle with,” said head coach Phil Sykes. “But sometimes you can try too hard. We're lucky that this isn't the America East Tournament, and hopefully we'll have another opportunity to see them in November.”

Meg Flatley scored two goals to lead the Wildcats, notching her first goal in the 12th minute. She scored on a rebound in the first half and a penalty corner deflection in the second period. The sophomore now has 11 goals this season.

UAlbany's Paula Heuser took the ball through the middle to fire a shot shortly after UNH's first goal. The freshman weaved through the Wildcat back line while the Great Danes were shorthanded, but Carlie Tarbell came out of the cage to make the save.

Meg Carroll scored the Wildcat goal to make the score 2-0. Carroll received a pass from Melyssa Woods for the score.

The Great Danes had their best opportunity to score in the second half when Heuser poked the ball away from a UNH defender and headed for goal. The freshman fired a shot into the right corner of the cage, but Carlie Tarbell made the diving save across the goal line.

UAlbany gave up a season-high three goals and eight shots on goal.

Phil Sykes's squad will look to rebound at Hofstra on Sunday at 3 p.m.
