West Hartford, Conn.- UAlbany's offense, which was led by shortstop Alexa Toole's 2-for-3, one homerun and three RBI performance, exploded against Hartford in its 8-2 win on Sunday, April 8. The Great Danes offense completed its second three-game America East sweep in which they scored 30 runs and allowed just three. UAlbany is now on an 11-game winning streak and improved to 8-1 in conference play while Hartford falls to 0-9 in league play.
In the third game of the weekend series, UAlbany (24-7, 8-1 AE) would have six different batters with two hits or more in its eight-run 14 hit game. Toole would lead the Danes, going 2-for-3 on the day with a homerun, three rbis and two stolen bases.
Brittany MacFawn (13-3) won her fifth consecutive start, pitching her 12th complete-game and allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out nine.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, Hartford (4-27, 0-9) looked to grab its first league win, scoring in the bottom of the third to tie the game, 1-1. Rightfielder Devynne Butler led the inning off with a single through the left side, Amber Andrews hit a sacrifice bunt to move Butler to second, Butler would steal third and then score on a throwing error by UAlbany's catcher Kylie Apostolina.
UAlbany's bats would wake up in the fifth and sixth inning, exploding for seven runs on eight hits to go up 8-1 in the top of the sixth. The Great Danes would open the top of the sixth with four consecutive hits and cap the five-run inning with Toole's two-run home run.
UAlbany will take its 11-game winning streak back to Albany Field for a 12-game home stand beginning with a non-conference doubleheader against Bryant on Tuesday, April 10.
