#23 UAlbany Field Hockey Rolls to a 9-0 Victory Over Lehigh
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Jessica Longstreth scored two goals, including what would be the gamewinner, Liza Morgan tallied two goals, and five other Great Danes scored as well, as #23 UAlbany defeated Lehigh in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Turf Field. The Great Danes improve to 8-7 on the season.
Longstreth got the game started with her first goal just six minutes into the game, dribbling the ball into the circle and taking a hard shot from right to left. Daphne Voormolen gave UAlbany a 2-0 lead with a goal in the 28th minute, tipping in a rebound off an inital shot from Kelly Bonner. UAlbany got two more goals before halftime, as Laura Page assisted on two late tallies. At 30:37, Page crossed the ball in front of the cage, where Corrine McConville got a stick on it to tip it into the cage. On a penalty corner opportunity at the end of the half, Page took the inital shot, and Longstreth picked up the rebound to find the back of the cage.
Just over a minute into the second half, Page got into the goals column, as Echo Bretz passed the ball across the front of the cage for the assist. The Great Danes later got two more goals in quick succession, as Chantae Miller deflected a pass from McConville into the cage at 43:23, and Page assisted on a goal by Amy Nicklin at 49:56. Morgan finished up the scoring for the Great Danes, scoring her first goal of the game at 56:04, with an assist from Emily White, before redirecting a hard crossing pass from Bretz in the 61st minute to set the final 9-0 margin.
UAlbany outshot the Mountain Hawks, 41-0, and held an 18-1 advantage in penalty corners. Goalkeeper Kristi Troch did not have to make a save for the Great Danes, while Sydney Maltinsky made 14 saves in the cage for Lehigh (3-12).
UAlbany will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 20, hosting Maine in America East Conference action at 1 p.m.
