Just four minutes into the first stanza junior defenseman Becky Dru took a shot off a penalty corner to put the Cardinal on the board with assists from Stephanie Byrne and Hope Burke. Play would sway back and forth the next twenty minutes before the Great Danes got their first tally. Sophomore Corrine McConville received a second chance off the penalty corner attempt to slap a shot into the back of cage to tie the score with fewer than fourteen minutes to play in the first half. Stanford responded quickly with an unassisted goal from Hope Burke. The shot bounced off the left pipe and in for the Cardinal lead at 2-1.

Stanford (2-1) looked for a commanding lead ten minutes into the second half when freshman forward Alex McCawley fired a blaze just inside the arc and into the left side of the cage to make it a 3-1 game. The Great Danes responded back when McConville, once again, got a second shot off a penalty corner right down the middle to get her second tally of the game. UAlbany would keep up the pressure the final fifteen minutes as they searched for the equalizer, but could not capitalize.

The Great Danes held a shot advantage, 12-11, and had a commanding 9-3 edge on penalty corners. Cardinal goalkeeper Ale Moss made six saves. Kristi Troch had four saves for UAlbany and took the loss.

UAlbany (1-1) will make a trip to Chicago this Saturday and Sunday for two matches, taking on Virginia Commonwealth University and Northwestern, both are 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time starts.
