Albany, N.Y. - Joey Martin went 4-for-5, including a home run, with five RBI in game one, while Alex Calbick hit two homers in game two, leading Maine to a doubleheader sweep of UAlbany in America East Conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field. The Black Bears recorded a 19-6 win in the first game before posting an 8-3 victory in the nightcap.

            UAlbany scored first in the early game, as Nolan Gaige scored on a double by Greg Muller in the first inning. Muller later came home on an RBI single by Josh Nethaway. Maine responded with a single run in the top of the second and then added two runs in the third to take a 3-2 lead. The Black Bears scored in each inning that followed, including getting five runs on the board in the fourth and scoring eight times in the sixth.

Martin hit his homer, a two-run shot that scored Michael Fransoso, in the sixth. Fransoso was also responsible for two runs later in the frame, as he doubled down the right field line to score Eric White and Mike Connolly. The Great Danes got three runs back in the bottom of the inning, as Maine reliever Joe Miller issued back-to-back bases loaded walks, while Kyle Crean recorded a sacrifice fly to score the final run of the frame. However, Justin Leisenheimer hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to give the Black Bears their final total. UAlbany added one run in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run by Rob Cervini, but the Great Danes could not rally any further.

Dave Kubiak took the loss on the mound for UAlbany, going four innings and striking out three, but also allowing 12 hits. Keith Bilodeau earned the win for Maine, going five innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out four.

The Black Bears came out firing in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Calbick hit his first long ball of the day in the inning, a two-run shot over the right-field fence. Maine then added a single run in the second, as UAlbany starter Kasceim Graham issued a bases-loaded walk to score Ian Leisenheimer. UAlbany got on the board in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Jeff Welsh that scored Nethaway.

Calbick recorded his second homer of the game in the fourth, accounting for all three of Maine's run in the inning with a three-run shot to right field. The Black Bears added a single run in the seventh, as Ian Leisenheimer came home on an RBI single by Troy Black. UAlbany got two runs back in the bottom of the inning, as Maine reliever A.J. Bazdanes walked in two runs. The Great Danes got baserunners in the final two innings, but were unable to capitalize on a rally.

Graham took the loss on the mound for the Great Danes. The sophomore righty struck out two batters over four innings of work. Reliever Matt Dybus fanned six, scattering three hits over five innings. Maine starter Jeffrey Gibbs earned the win for the Black Bears, striking out 10 while allowing three hits in six and a thirds innings of work.

UAlbany (17-24, AE 9-6) and Maine (21-21, AE 11-5) will complete the three-game series on Sunday, with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
