Stony Brook, N.Y. - Maxx
Tissenbaum went 3-for-3 with two RBI in game one, while Keith Murakami drove in
what would prove to be the deciding run in game two en route to leading Stony
Brook to a doubleheader sweep of UAlbany in the final America East regular
season baseball games of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Seawolves
defeated the Great Danes, 13-4, in the early game, before holding on for a 4-3
victory in the nightcap.
In game one, Stony Brook scored in all but one inning,
scoring three runs in the first and two in the second for an early 5-0
advantage. UAlbany got one run back in the third on an RBI single by Vincent
Martorelli that scored Greg Muller, who led off with a base hit. The Seawolves
scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, including getting a run in
on Pat Cantwell's triple into left center. Stony Brook added a pair of runs in
the fifth and three more in the sixth, on a three-run homer by Murakami.
UAlbany got two runners on base in the top of the seventh with back-to-back
walks, and both runners scored on a home run by Josh Nethaway over the left
field fence.
James Campbell earned the win on the mound for Stony
Brook, allowing just one hit over three innings of work. UAlbany starter Ryan
White took the loss for the Great Danes, allowing five earned runs. Brian
Gauthier fanned one in two innings, scattering four hits.
Nethaway continued his strong hitting in game two,
hitting an RBI single through the left side to score Kyle Crean, giving the
Great Danes an early 1-0 lead. Stony Brook scored a pair of runs in the bottom
of the third to take a one-run advantage, and added two more runs in the bottom
of the seventh on a single by Murakami that scored two runs.
UAlbany attempted to rally in the top of the eighth,
scoring two runs on a Nethaway single that scored Crean and Nolan Gaige. With
the go-ahead run at the plate, reliever Jasvir Rakkar induced a fly out to end
the Great Dane threat and seal up the win for Stony Brook.
Starter Austin Chase took the loss on the mound for the
Great Danes, striking out two and scattering five hits over seven innings of
work. Evan Stecko-Haley earned the win, allowing just one earned run with three
strikeouts across six innings. Willie Carmona earned the save, pitching the
final inning for the Seawolves.
