UAlbany Baseball Drops Both Ends of America East Doubleheader at Stony Brook

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook used strong pitching performances from Nick Tropeano and Tyler Johnson to lead the Seawolves to a doubleheader sweep of UAlbany in America East Conference baseball action on Friday afternoon. Stony Brook took game one, 6-1, and fell, 6-0, in the nightcap.

Stony Brook took an early lead in the early game, as Chad Marshall hit a solo home run out to right field. The Seawolves added another run in the bottom of the third, with Marshall's second hit of the game. The shortstop recorded a double that scored Pat Cantwell, giving Stony Brook a 2-0 advantage. The Seawolves broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning. Stephen Marino doubled into left center, scoring Maxx Tissenbaum, before UAlbany starter Dave Kubiak issued two bases-loaded walks to give Stony Brook a 4-0 lead. Marshall accounted for the final Stony Brook run, recording a sacrifice fly to bring in Travis Jankowski.

UAlbany got one run back in the top of the seventh. Nolan Gaige singled up the middle to reach base, and came home on a double down the right field line by Mike Tirri. The Great Danes got a runner on bad with a walk, but relief pitcher Jasvir Rakkar induced a fly out to end the game.

Stony Brook's Nick Tropeano earned the win on the mound, improving to 11-1 on the season, giving up two hits and striking out six. Kubiak took the loss for UAlbany, allowing all six earned runs, walking four and striking out three, falling to 6-6 on the season.

In the nightcap, Stony Brook struck early again, scoring three runs in the first two innings. Willie Carmona recorded a two-RBI single in the first inning, while Jankowski came home on a wild pitch in the second to give the Seawolves a 3-0 lead. Stony Brook added two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a double into center by Sal Intagliata that scored Tanner Nivins and Jankowski. The Seawolves scored their final run of the game in the seventh on a solo homer by Tissenbaum.

The Great Danes got base runners on in the eighth and ninth in an attempt to rally, but relievers Josh Barry and Bryan Tatelman shut down both innings out of the bullpen. Johnson earned the win on the mound for Stony Brook, allowing just two hits while issuing four strikeouts. Starter Zach Kraham went five innings on the mound for UAlbany, scattering five hits with four strikeouts. Kasceim Graham threw the last three innings, fanning two.

UAlbany (19-27, AE 11-9) and Stony Brook (39-10, AE 20-2) will play another doubleheader at Joe Nathan Field on Saturday starting at noon.
