Boston, Mass. - Amy Ekart went 3-for-4 with a double to lead Boston U. to a 7-0 win over UAlbany in America East softball action on Sunday afternoon, completing a three-game sweep of the Great Danes.
Megan Volpano gave the Terriers an early lead as she hit a homer in bottom of the first, driving in Jayme Mask. BU, which scored in all but two frames, added another run in the second, loading the bases on an error, infield single and walk. Mask scored her second run of the game on a wild pitch. The Terriers took advantage of a UAlbany error in the third, as Kayla Kruper scored from second to increase the Boston U. lead to 4-0. The Terriers opened up the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs on four hits.
Sophomore hurler Whitney Tuthill earned the win in the circle for Boston U. (30-14, AE 12-3), allowing just three hits while striking out two. Brittany Schweiger took the loss for UAlbany, after allowing two earned runs in the first innings. Allie Weiser took over in the circle for the Great Danes, fanning four in five innings of work. Senior first baseman Gina Mason recorded two of UAlbany's three hits.
UAlbany (20-21, AE 11-4) will return to action with a non-conference doubleheader against Manhattan on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
