West Hartford, Conn. - Ralph Rizzo hit two doubles, scoring one run and
driving in another to lead UAlbany to a 5-1 win over Hartford, to complete the
three-game sweep of the Hawks in America East Conference baseball action on
Sunday afternoon.
UAlbany struck first, scoring two runs in the first
inning, as Greg Muller drove an RBI double down the right field line, scoring
Kyle Crean, before coming home on a base hit by Josh Nethaway. Hartford cut the lead in half with one run in
the second, but the Great Danes tacked on two more in the third. Rizzo led off
the frame with his first double of the game and came home on a double by Mike
Tirri. Muller also scored in the inning, coming home on a Hartford error. UAlbany added its final run
of the game in the top of the seventh inning. With two outs, Josy Espinal walked,
and Rizzo followed with his second double of the game to complete the Great
Danes' scoring.
Zach Kraham earned the win on the mound for UAlbany,
striking out three over seven innings of work. Austin Chase and Kevin Cowan
each threw one inning in relief. Cowan struck out two in the bottom of the
ninth. Anthony Mannuccia took the loss for Hartford (3-33-1, AE 1-11.), scattering six
hits and fanning seven in six and two thirds innings.
UAlbany (17-20, AE 9-4) will return to action on Tuesday,
hosting Le Moyne in a non-conference doubleheader at Varsity Field.
