Albany, N.Y. - Andrianna Walraven went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI to lead UAlbany to a three-game sweep of Hartford with a 5-3 win over the Hawks in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Albany field. The Great Danes improved to 9-16 overall with a 3-0 mark in league play.
Hartford took an early 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI triple by Lauren Kamena. The Hawks held onto the one-run lead until the bottom of the third, when UAlbany scored two runs on a double by Gina Mason. Walraven and Katie Wambold recorded back-to-back singles to start the inning before coming home on Mason's knock into centerfield. The Hawks then tied the game in the top of the fourth. Kamena led off the frame with a base hit and then came home on an RBI single by Chelsey Mooney.
UAlbany tacked on two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-2 advantage. Walraven drove in two of her three runs on the day in the inning, knocking a base hit up the middle that scored Alison Haan and Diane MacDowell. The Great Danes added an insurance run in the sixth with Walraven's triple that sent MacDowell home. Hartford (3-17, AE 0-6) attempted to rally in the seventh, but only managed to get one run home on a Melani Maxwell double that scored Mooney.
Brittany MacFawn earned the win after coming in for three and two-thirds innings of relief in the circle. MacFawn scattered two hits while striking out two. Starter Allie Weiser fanned four in the first three and a third innings. Siera Sheehan took the loss for the Hawks, allowing seven hits despite striking out five opposing batters.
UAlbany (9-16, AE 3-0) will return to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader against non-conference opponent Cornell at 3:30 p.m. at Albany Field.
