University Park, Pa. - Kyle Crean went 3-for-3 with two runs scored an two RBI to lead UAlbany to an 8-7 win over Le Moyne in non-conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Medlar Field.
Le Moyne took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second before tacking on an additional run in the third to hold a 6-0 advantage. UAlbany came back in the fourth with a six-run inning to tie the game. Le Moyne pitcher Cory Nelson loaded the bases with three straight walks before leadoff batter Josh Nethaway came home on a wild pitch to start the rally. Josy Espinal followed with an RBI single, before Crean came home on another Dolphin error. Nolan Gaige recorded an RBI double to cut the Le Moyne lead to 6-4, while Jeff Welsh recorded a sacrifice fly to score D.J. Hoagboon. Pete DiResta recorded his sixth triple of the season, the most in the nation, to score Gaige, forcing Le Moyne to switch pitchers to end the inning.
UAlbany took an 8-6 lead in the top of the fifth on Crean's two-run homer to right that scored lead-off batter Greg Muller, who walked to start the frame. Le Moyne attempted to post a comeback in the later going, scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth, but UAlbany relief pitcher Kasceim Graham made quick work of the seventh and eighth innings, with three strikeouts and no baserunners. After allowing two hits in the bottom of the ninth, Graham issued his fourth strikeout of the game and induced a flyout to earn the save and seal the one-run win for the Great Danes.
Dave Kubiak moved to 2-2 win the win on the mound, striking out five in six innings of work for UAlbany. Ed Kohout took the loss for Le Moyne (5-16), despite five strikeouts in five and a third innings of action.
UAlbany (5-11) will return to action on Sunday, facing Penn State at 3:05 p.m.
