Dover, Del. - Jordan Reid recorded an RBI single that scored the second run of the fifth inning, leading Delaware State to a 2-0 win over UAlbany in non-conference softball action on Friday afternoon at the Hornet's Nest. It was the first day of play at the Delaware State Tournament.

            After four and a half scoreless innings, the Hornets scored the only two runs they would need to win the game. Ashley Davis led off the inning with a double before coming home on a sacrifice fly by Tawny Reeger, scoring the first run. Reid's base hit up the middle scored Kelsey Lewis, who came in the game to pinch run for Stephanie Martello, who singled into right earlier in the inning.

            The Great Danes got runners on base in both the sixth and seventh innings, but strong pitching by Delaware State's Stephanie Sarris, who tossed two and two thirds innings of relief, shut down the UAlbany offense. Brittany Schweiger took the loss in the circle for the Great Danes after five innings of work with one strikeout. Brittany MacFawn came into the game for the final inning of relief work. Gina Mason finished with three of UAlbany's eight hits in the game.

            UAlbany (3-13) will return to action on Saturday, facing Colgate and Morgan State in the continuation of the Delaware State Tournament.
