Fort Myers, Fla. - UAlbany softball dropped both games on the second day of the Moe's Blue and Green Invite, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast at the FGCU Softball Complex. The Great Danes fell to Southern Illinois, 5-4, in eight innings, and recorded a 2-1 loss to St. Francis (Pa.) later in the day.

In the first game of the day, Cristina Trapani came through with a clutch RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for the Salukis. UAlbany had grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI double by Andrianna Walraven. The hit scored Diane MacDowell, who singled to reach base and then stole second. After Walraven stole third, she was driven home on a double by Gina Mason to give the Great Danes the lead.

Trapani who would come up big in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to put the game in extra innings where she would eventually hit the game-winner with the bases loaded.

Brittany Schweiger tossed a complete game for UAlbany, striking out five in the loss. Mason went 2-for-4 at the plate, while three other Great Danes also recorded hits.

In the late game, UAlbany scored first, but the Flash rallied for the comeback victory. MacDowell scored the lone run for the Great Danes, coming across home in the bottom of the first to put UAlbany on top early.

However, St. Francis' Ashley Thomas recorded an RBI single in the second to tie the game, before Katie McMellan drove in the winning run in the fourth to seal the win for the Flash.

MacDowell went 2-for-4 in the game, while Brittany MacFawn took the loss for the Great Danes. MacFawn struck out two over four innings of work in the circle.

UAlbany (1-3) will return to action on Sunday to close out play in the tournament, taking on host Florida Gulf Coast at 1:30 p.m.
