No. 18 UAlbany Falls to Fourth-Ranked Connecticut in Non-League Field Hockey Action

Albany, N.Y. - Forward Anne Jeute scored two goals to lead the No. 4 Connecticut Huskies to a 5-0 win over 18th-ranked UAlbany in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Turf Field. With the loss, UAlbany slips to 3-1, while UConn improves to 4-1 on the season.

UConn scored just three minutes into the game when forward Anne Jeute deflected the ball into the top left corner of the cage off of a shot by Ali Blankmeyer. Blankmeyer would go on to assist the second goal of the game in the 11th minute of play, shooting a ball to the opposite post to find teammate Marie Elena Bolles for the deflection into the left corner of the cage. The Huskies got on the board again at the 28:17 mark of the first half when Bolles and Cara Silverman teamed up in a two-on-one to slip the ball past Great Dane goalkeeper Christine Hoffman.

UConn would go on to add two more tallies in the second half to secure the win. On a corner in the 42nd minute of play, Jestine Angelini found the back of the net, to put the Huskies up, 4-0. Jeute then added her second goal of the game on a fast break at the 54:41 mark.

The Great Danes attempted to rally late in the second half with two close scoring opportunities. UAlbany forward Christina Patrick had a fast break towards the cage, but the Huskies relentless defense would not allow Patrick a shot. Reigning America East Conference Rookie of the Week Daphne Voormolen also had a great chance to score with a one-on-one opportunity with UConn goalkeeper Allison Karpiak, but Karipiak came out of the cage to disrupt the play sending the ball past the endline.

UConn held an 11-8 advantage in shots while corners were even at four a piece. Hoffman played all 70 minutes in goal for UAlbany, making 4 saves. Starting goalkeeper Sarah Mansfield played 54:40 minutes in cage for the Huskies not having to make a save, while Karpiak stopped one shot for UConn in 15:20 minutes of play.

UAlbany will return to action on Friday, Sept. 17 to take on Quinnipiac in Ann Arbor, Mich. at 1 p.m. The Great Danes will then face Michigan on Sunday.
