UAlbany Drops Both Ends of America East Baseball Doubleheader With Binghamton

Vestal, N.Y. - Henry Dunn hit a walk-off single in the first game, while Jeff Skelhorn-Gross knocked a walk-off single in the nightcap to lead Binghamton to a doubleheader sweep of UAlbany in America East Conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats posted a 3-2 win in game one and recorded an 8-7 victory in game two.

            Nolan Gaige finished with two hits in the first game to lead the Great Danes, including an RBI double. Ralph Rizzo drove in the second UAlbany run and recorded a stolen base. Pitcher Dave Kubiak tossed a complete game for the Great Danes, going six and a third innings of work with five strikeouts. Binghamton's James Giulietti went the distance on the mound for the Bearcats, fanning nine opposing batters.

            In the second game, UAlbany held a 7-5 lead through the seventh inning, when Binghamton scored two runs in the bottom half of the frame on a two-run homer by Dave Ciocchi. The Bearcats ended the game in the ninth on Skelhorn-Gross' single that drove in Corey Taylor, who walked to get on base.

            Brendan Rowland hit a grand slam in the first inning to give the Great Danes an early 4-0 lead. Kyle Crean followed with a lead-off homer in the second inning, while Rizzo and Brian Bullard also finished with multiple hits. Kevin Bartlett took the loss on the mound for the Great Danes after one and two thirds innings of work with two strikeouts. Joe Swindells earned the win for Binghamton in relief, tossing five frames with two strikeouts.

             UAlbany (9-32, AE 8-8) will finish off the four-game series with Binghamton (22-18, AE 13-3) on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m..
