Baseball Falls to Le Moyne, 6-2, in Non-League Play; Shortstop Kyle Crean Has Two RBIs

Albany, N.Y. - Right fielder Brett Botsford went 3-for-4, including a home run in the ninth inning, scoring three runs and driving in two more to lead Le Moyne to a 6-2 win over UAlbany in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Varsity Field.

Botsford scored one of two LeMoyne runs in the eighth to break a 2-2 tie. He led off the inning, and was hit by a pitch to reach base. After advancing on a wild pitch and a ground out by Zach Wiley, Botsford came home on a UAlbany fielding error. Chris Edmondson, who drew a walk earlier in the frame, later scored on a second Great Dane fielding error to give Le Moyne the 4-2 advantage.

The Dolphins extended their lead in the ninth, as Matthew Ciraco was hit by a pitch and then driven home by Botsford's home run out to right field. The Great Danes had base runners in the eighth and ninth, but left three on between the two innings, as Le Moyne held the UAlbany offense at bay to secure the win.

The Great Danes scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game. After Le Moyne pitcher Jerome Werniuk got two quick outs to start the game, he walked UAlbany catcher Ralph Keppler, who then stole second. Shortstop Kyle Crean followed with a home run down the right field line that stayed just inside the foul pole, putting the Great Danes on the board.

UAlbany's Nick Sessa took the loss, while five other pitchers also saw action on the mound for the Great Danes. All six pitchers had at least one strikeout, with starter Kasceim Graham and Kevin Bartlett each recording two. Casey Cannon, who relieved Werniuk in the third, earned the win for Le Moyne (21-21).

UAlbany (4-25) will return to action over the weekend, hosting America East Conference rival Stony Brook in a four-game series, with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
