Conway, S.C. - Right fielder Dan Sherwood recorded two hits, scored two runs and drove in two more to lead Toledo to an 8-2 win over UAlbany on the second day of the Caravalle Resort Tournament at Watson Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Toledo (3-2) used back-to-back three run innings to take a 6-2 lead in the third. The Rockets struck first in the top of the second, as Sherwood recorded his first hit of the game, knocking a double down the right field line to put Jim Vahalik, who was hit by a pitch, into scoring position. Vahalik scored on a sacrifice fly by Joe Corfman for the first run of the game, while Sherwood crossed home on a base hit by Matt Delewski. Delewski advanced to third on a double by Josh Wierzba, and scored the Rockets' final run on a ground out.
UAlbany responded in the bottom of the frame as Pete Eichner hit a lead off single and scored on a two-RBI single up the middle by Mike Tirri. Josh Nethaway, who also knocked a single, also scored on the play. Toledo started off the third with a double by Jared Hoying, who then scored on a Vahalik triple. Sherwood knocked his second hit of the day, a two-run homer over the right field fence, to give the Rockets a four-run advantage.
Toledo tacked on two additional runs in the sixth, taking advantage of two UAlbany errors in the inning. Tim Krofcheck singled to left and advanced on the play, later scoring on a wild pitch and Great Dane throwing error. Wierzba, who reached on an error, also scored on a wild pitch, forcing UAlbany to go to the bullpen.
