Baseball Falls to St. John's, 8-2, in Series Finale; Adam Cutspec Has Three Hits

Queens, N.Y.  - Left fielder Jeremy Baltz recorded two hits and scored two runs to lead St. John's to an 8-2 win over UAlbany in the finale of a three-game series on Sunday, March 21 at Kaiser Stadium.

UAlbany scored its only two runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Nolan Gaige singled through the right side to lead off the game, and second baseman Brian Bullard followed with a home run over the fence in right centerfield to put the Great Danes on the board. After hitting Brendan Rowland with a pitch, St. John's pitcher Kyle Hansen settled down and proceeded to throw five more scoreless innings.

Red Storm third baseman Greg Hopkins put St. John's on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a solo homer, and sent the tying run home in the third with a ground out. The Red Storm took the lead with two runs in the fourth as Sean O'Hare singled and stole second to get into scoring position, making it home on a UAlbany error. Scott Ferrara added a run later in the inning on an RBI single by Jimmy Parque. St. John's added three runs in the fifth behind a home run by Miguel Valcarcel, and wrapped up the scoring in the seventh, scoring one run on an RBI single by O'Hare.

UAlbany's Christian Garcia took the loss for the Great Danes after allowing four earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Hansen earned the win for St. John's (11-6) with his six-inning performance, while Stephen Rivera earned the save for the Red Storm.

UAlbany (1-12) will return to action with its home opener on Tuesday, welcoming Marist to Varsity Field for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
