Durham, N.H. - Emma Erler scored a goal and recorded an assist to lead New Hampshire to a 4-1 win over UAlbany in the final regular-season field hockey matchup of the season. With the win, the Wildcats claimed the 2010 America East Conference regular season title with an undefeated league slate, and earned the right to host the upcoming conference championship tournament.
New Hampshire got on the board first, as Kyle Lyons took assists from Kendall Deck and Erler on a penalty corner shot just under 16 minutes into the game. The Wildcats doubled their score at 21:17, when Megan Callahan deflected a pass from Hayley Rausch past UAlbany goalkeeper Kristi Troch. UAlbany broke up the shutout before the end of the first half, as Suzy Clephane took an initial shot from the top of the circle that was saved by New Hampshire's Katherine Nagengast. Christina Patrick collected the rebound and pushed the ball into the back of the cage.
The 2-1 score held for the majority of the second half before Megan Bozek put New Hampshire up, 3-1, on a penalty corner goal with assists from Deck and Rausch in the 64th minute. Erler wrapped up the scoring with an unassisted goal at 66:49 to seal the win for the Wildcats.
New Hampshire (13-6, AE 5-0) outshot UAlbany, 11-5, while the teams were tied with three penalty corners apiece. Troch finished with five saves in her complete-game performance for the Great Danes, while Nagengast stopped three UAlbany shots for the Wildcats.
New Hampshire will host the America East Championship on November 5-6, as the top-seeded team. UAlbany (13-5, AE 4-1) has secured the second seed for the tournament. Boston U. and Maine, who have clinched tournament berths, will battle for the third and fourth seeds to determine the tournament matchups at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
