Albany, N.Y. - #9 American scored two goals off penalty corners en route to a 2-0 win over 18th-ranked UAlbany in non-conference field hockey action at Alumni Turf Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles scored both of their goals in the first half. Gina Hofmann scored the first tally for American, just 1:46 into the game. With assists from Natalie Ellenberger and Kirstin Gebhart, Hofmann took a straight shot from the top of the circle to put the Eagles on the board. Ellenberger netted the second goal for the Eagles, tipping in a shot from Gebhart on another penalty corner opportunity.
UAlbany outshot the Eagles, 12-5, and held an 11-3 advantage in penalty corners. Hannah Weitzman made eight saves in the goal for American (12-2). Christine Hoffman and Kristi Troch split time in the cage for UAlbany. Hoffman took the loss after allowing both American goals in the first half, while Troch made one save in the second stanza.
UAlbany (12-4) will be idle for the next week, returning to action on Sunday, Oct. 24, hosting America East rival Boston U. at 3 p.m.
