Sacred Heart Deals UAlbany Women's Soccer its Second Straight 1-0 Defeat at Governor's Cup

Albany, N.Y. ?  Leigh Dogmanits' goal 13 minutes into the second half helped lead Sacred Heart to a 1-0 victory over the University at Albany women's soccer team in the second round of the Governor's Cup at Varsity Field on Sunday, Sept. 21. UAlbany goalkeeper Amber Maisonet made a career-best 10 saves in the losing effort.

After a scoreless first half, Dogmanits gave Sacred Heart (1-7-1) all the leverage it would need to win its first match of the season in the 58th minute. Britney Dupee made a pass down to the top left corner of the 18-yard box. Dogmanits beat a charging Maisonet to the ball, dribbled around her to the left side and sent the ball to the back of the net despite an effort by UAlbany defender Katie Norwood to clear it away before crossing the goal line.

Just as it did two days ago against Army, UAlbany (2-9) had a good opportunity to score in the final 30 seconds when the squad was awarded a corner kick. However, Jaclyn Rosada's shot with about 20 ticks left in regulation went wide right and allowed the Pioneers to hold on for the one-goal win.

With the loss, the Great Danes placed fourth overall in the tournament for posting an 0-2 record. UAlbany's Annika Hanson and Lee were named to the all-tournament team. Siena edged out Sacred Heart for the team title after winning the second tiebreaker for total goals scored, 5-3. Both teams posted identical 1-0-1 records and played to a 2-2 draw on Friday afternoon. Army finished in third place with a 1-1 ledger.

UAlbany's Maisonet made her third straight start in goal and stopped 10 of the 22 shots taken by Sacred Heart. The senior has posted an impressive .840 save percentage as well as a 1.33 goals against average over the stretch. Sacred Heart's Meghan Reichelt made seven saves to post her first shutout of the season and earn the win.

The Great Danes will travel to Boston University next Sunday for their America East Conference opener. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
