Stony Brook, N.Y. ? Molly Kestranek belted a three-run homer in the sixth inning to lead Stony Brook to a 4-2 America East Conference victory over UAlbany on Sunday, April 27 at University Field. The Seawolves won two of three games during the weekend series.
Stony Brook (26-18-1, AE 11-7) broke up a 1-1 deadlock with a two-out rally in the sixth. Marissa Fleury and Jade Clare both singled through the left side to start the uprising. Kestranek, a junior second baseman, followed with a three-run blast over the left-field fence, her second home run of the season.
UAlbany shortstop Meagan Butsch sliced the deficit in half with a lead-off homer, her sixth of the year, in the seventh. After Gina Mason singled, SBU reliever Casey Jacobs came to retire the next three batters to earn her fourth save. She struck out Jessica Bergin before fielding Kat Smith's ground ball to end the game.
UAlbany (26-15, AE 13-5) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Andrianna Walraven doubled into the left-field gap and Michelle Connors chased her home with a single. The Seawolves drew even in their next at-bat when center fielder Kelsi Fanelli led off with a solo home run.
SBU hurler Alyssa Struzenberg recorded her 18th win of the spring with by scattering six hits and striking out six. UAlbany's Leah McIntosh slipped to 12-5 despite recording three strikeouts with no walks in the complete-game effort.
