Guzman joins the Great Danes after spending the previous three seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations at Stetson University. There, he was responsible for all team travel, transportation, coordination of schedules, assisting with on floor coaching, and spearheading all community activities. Guzman has also spent time at Monroe College (2018-19) as an Associate Head Coach, with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) (2017-Present) as a Director of Scouting and Assistant Coach, with the NBA (2017-18) as a League Operations Manager, and with Rider University (2017-18) as a Director of Player Development.
“Having coached Luis at Temple, I witnessed his winning MENTALITY that helped lead us to three NCAA Tournaments,” said Coach Dwayne Killings. “As a professional, his experience in the AAU ranks, with the Dominican National Team, and time at both Stetson and Rider, our program will benefit from his wealth of experiences.”
At the time of his hiring, Guzman added "I am super excited to join the UAlbany community. There isn’t a better time to be a part of this program and I am thrilled to learn from Coach Killings. He is a tremendous mentor, coach, and leader. I’m grateful for this opportunity and for what’s to come in the future."
In 2020-21, Stetson participated in NCAA Division I postseason play for the first time in school history, earning an invitation to the CBI. On March 22, Stetson won its first-ever NCAA Division I postseason game, defeating Bowling Green 53-52 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. The Hatters rallied from 15-point second half deficit to post the historic win. In the conference tournament, the 7th-seeded Hatters pulled offna 73-70 upset win over 2-seed Bellarmine in the ASUN Championship quarterfinals. Stetson advanced to the ASUN for the second time in two years. In addition, Stetson was the only ASUN team to defeat all eight conference opponents at least once during the season.
In his one season at Monroe, the Mustangs were 25-6 and won the Region XI championship. Monore finished the season ranked No. 23 nationally.

Prior to his time at Monroe, Guzman spent one season as Director of Player Development at Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J. During his year at Rider the Broncs went 22-10 overall and 15-3 in conference play, capturing the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season title. Although the Broncs were upset in the first round of the MAAC Tournament, they still earned a bid into the 2018 NIT.

Guzman also spent time working with the NBA and WNBA in the Game Operations Center, where he supervised and supported the game ops staff while auditing basketball statistics and operations violations.

In 2015-16 Guzman returned to Temple as a member of the coaching staff, serving as a graduate manager while pursuing his Master’s degree.

Guzman was Basketball Hall of Famer John Chaney's last recruit at Temple. Playing under Fran Dunphy, Guzman helped lead the Owls to three Atlantic 10 Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances during his career, serving as team captain as a senior. During his time at Temple, Guzman received the Anthony Cimino Award for excellence in athletics and academics.

Prior to returning to Temple, Guzman played professionally in eight different countries over a five-year span. He won championships while competing in the Dominican Republic, Denmark, Mongolia and Mexico. He also represented the Dominican Republic at the Pan American Games in 2011, and was a member of the silver-medal winning U17 team at the 2005 Centrobasket Tournament.

Guzman graduated from Temple in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in business marketing. He later obtained his master's degree in sports business from Temple in 2017.
