John Weigner

John Weigner enters his first season with the UAlbany men’s basketball team, serving as the team’s Graduate Assistant. In this role, Weigner will assist the UAlbany coaching staff in all day-to-day operations. Specifically, he will assist in team video work, film, recruiting efforts, and student-athlete skill development such as individual and small group workouts.

Before UAlbany, Weigner attended the University of Rhode Island, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in sports media and communications. While at Rhode Island, he served as a student manager with the Rams’ men’s basketball team for four years. He worked under head coaches David Cox and Archie Miller, assisting with player development, skill workouts, film breakdown, scouting reports, and day-to-day operations. He gained valuable experience working with high-level student-athletes including current NBA players Tyrese Martin, Jacob Toppin, and Jeff Dowtin. During his final two seasons with the Rams, Weigner was promoted to the team’s Head Manager.
