UAlbany Drops Close Contest to #16 Princeton on Alumni Night

Short Story: On a night in which the UAlbany men's soccer program welcomed back its 2016 America East Championship team for Alumni night, the Great Danes battled late but ultimately fell to Princeton.

How it Happened:
  • Rodrigo Hermelo took the first shot of the match for the Great Danes in the 10'.
  • David Barkan forced Princeton goalie Andrew Samuels to make a save in the 16'
  • Caleb Vallance was fouled inside the box in the 17' and was awarded a penalty kick, which was ultimately saved by Samuels to keep the score even.
  • The Tigers took the lead in the 33' when a Tyler Vilet header found the back of the net to make it 1-nil.
  • Owen Tuttle tallied a shot as the first half came to a close, and the score remained 1-nil at the half.
  • Princeton took its first shot of the second half at the 50' and took another a minute later as both missed left.
  • UAlbany goalkeeper Alexander Genz made his first save of the match in the 53'.
  • In the 60', Jordan Shullenberger took a shot that nearly found the back of the net. A diving effort from Samuels kept the shot out of the goal to hold the score 1-nil.
  • Less than a minute later, Hermelo took a shot that was also saved.
  • The Great Danes fired off three shots in the closing five minutes of the match, but the Princeton defense kept UAlbany off the board and secured a 1-0 victory.
