Baseball Falls to Maine in Series Opener

Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team dropped the opening game of its weekend series against Maine on Thursday afternoon.

How it Happened:
  • Maine opened the scoring in the first inning when Juju Stevens launched a solo home run to right field to make it 1-0 early.
  • The Black Bears added another run in the second on a solo home run from Quinn Murphy to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • After a scoreless third inning, Maine added to the lead in the fourth when Hunter St. Denis came around to score on a wild pitch during a rundown play to make it 3-0.
  • The Black Bears broke the game open in the fifth. Nic Pepe connected on a two-run home run before Albert De La Rosa added a two-run homer later in the inning as Maine extended the lead to 8-0.
  • Maine added four more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a three-RBI double from Troy Carpenter down the left field line to push the advantage to 12-0.
  • UAlbany broke through in the seventh when Tre Mariano launched a solo home run to right-center field for the Great Danes' lone run of the afternoon.
  • The Great Danes were unable to add on as Maine secured the series-opening victory.
