Baseball Shut Out in Series Finale Against NJIT

Score: NJIT 6, UAlbany 0

Location: Varsity Field – Albany, N.Y.

Records: UAlbany (12-23, 7-7 America East) | NJIT (13-24, 4-13 America East)

Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team was held scoreless on Sunday afternoon as NJIT used a late surge to take the series finale.

Coach Jon Mueller: "Great start from [Brian] Cadieux. We struggled offensively today and were unable to complete the sweep. Overall, a very good weekend."

Key Stats: How it Happened:
  • The game opened as a pitcher's duel, with both teams held scoreless through the first five innings.
  • Brian Cadieux got the start for the Great Danes and delivered a strong outing, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just four hits and working around traffic to keep NJIT off the board.
  • Tyler Kneller entered in relief in the sixth inning. After retiring the first two batters, NJIT broke through with a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead.
  • In the seventh, NJIT created separation. Following a hit-by-pitch and a single, a two-RBI single extended the lead before a three-run home run pushed the score to 6-0.
  • Christian Mello entered in the seventh and helped stop the rally, while Jameson Walsh and Ryan Pittz followed with scoreless innings out of the bullpen to keep the deficit at six.
  • UAlbany put runners on throughout the afternoon, including multiple baserunners in the second and sixth innings, but were unable to capitalize as NJIT held on for the shutout victory.
Next: The Great Danes play a mid-week at Varsity Field against Marist on Tuesday, April 28 at 3:00 PM.
